Citizenship
Citizenship enables students to develop knowledge, skills and understanding to become informed, active and responsible members of local, national and global communities. It also incorporates Relationships, Social and Health Education (RSHE), which looks at subjects relating to British Values, Protected Characteristics and much more. The curriculum follows the statuary guidelines as prescribed by the Department for Education.
All students have one Citizenship lesson a week, which is taught by their Form Tutor. However, content is also delivered in assemblies, enrichment days/activities, tutor time activities, guest speakers, trips and throughout subject areas.
The Citizenship programme aims to enable students to:

Assessment in Citizenship takes a variety of forms. students self-assess their own skills and attributes. There are also quizzes and knowledge checking activities embedded into lessons to assess student engagement and understanding. There are also more formal end of unit summative assessments.
Students are encouraged to express their views and opinions throughout Citizenship lessons. As part of our commitment to student welfare, we highlight the importance of reporting any inappropriate behaviour such as sexual harassment or bullying. This can be reported through the student’s form tutor, pastoral support, or through emailing our dedicated safeguarding team: safe@wellandparkacademy.com

Careers Provision
As part of the Citizenship programme, students are prepared for the world of work from Year 7 by learning about their key skills. Students also experience a 'What's my line' event, in KS3 where they have to guess the jobs of numerous guest speakers. We have been accredited by the Matrix Careers Award for our programme of study and follow the Gatsby 8 guidelines. We work closely with the Leicestershire Careers Hub, our local Enterprise Link and many employers to ensure the best provision possible. The skills the students develop in lessons, allow them to develop the confidence to make well-informed choices for their career path.
All students will receive a 1 to 1 interview with a qualified careers advisor during their studies. In addition, they will receive the opportunity in Years 9 and 11 to participate in interview days. These are facilitated by members of the local community, alongside local business employers. All year groups will receive at least one interaction with an employer and Year 9 all go out into the local community for workplace visits.
We also run a bi-annual careers fair for Years 10 and 11, broadening their awareness of Post-16 options. Year 10 students also complete work experience with local and national employers.
