Work Experience
Year 10 Work Experience 2027
All Year 10 students will take part in work experience from 28 June to 2 July 2027.
Work experience gives students the opportunity to explore career interests, develop employability skills, and gain valuable insight into the world of work. It can be one of the most meaningful and transformational experiences during a young person's education.
During the week, students will attend the workplace of their host employer each day. All placements must be in person and not virtual.
Finding a Placement
Students and their families are encouraged to source their own work experience placements. We have access to a limited number of employers who have previously worked with Welland Park Academy and may be willing to offer placements, although availability is limited. Students can speak to their Form Tutor for further information. Please note that, for GDPR reasons, we cannot share employer contact details directly with families.
When arranging a placement, please ensure that the employer is able to provide Employer's Liability Insurance (ELI), as this is a requirement for all work experience placements. Placements cannot be approved without valid ELI cover - even if the placement is with a family member.
Using Unifrog
We use Unifrog (www.unifrog.org) to manage the administration of work experience placements. This includes collecting information from employers regarding their health and safety arrangements and Employer's Liability Insurance, as well as obtaining parental consent for placements to proceed.
Once a placement has been agreed with an employer, students should add the details to the Placements section of their Unifrog account. It is essential that all information is entered accurately.
The Unifrog system will then contact the employer, parent/carer and the school to collect the necessary information, permissions and approvals. Employers will be asked to provide details of their insurance and health and safety arrangements through the system.
Work Experience Preparation and Reflection
In the lead-up to work experience, students will receive pre-placement support through Citizenship lessons. These sessions will help students prepare for the workplace by exploring topics such as employer expectations, workplace behaviour, communication skills, health and safety, and making the most of their placement experience.
Students will also be issued with a Work Experience Booklet to start before their placement. This booklet will guide them through the preparation process and help them set personal goals for the week.
During their placement, students will complete a Placement Journal, recording their daily activities, skills developed, and reflections on what they have learned. This journal is designed to encourage students to think about how their experiences relate to their future education and career aspirations.
Following their placement, students will complete a Post-Placement Reflection as part of their Work Experience Booklet. All completed work must be handed in before the summer holiday.
The quality of students' journals and reflections, together with feedback from employers, will be used to shortlist candidates for the Work Experience Placement of the Year Award. Employers will be contacted after the placement week to nominate students who have demonstrated exceptional commitment, professionalism, enthusiasm, and workplace skills.
The winner and shortlisted students will be recognised at the first Year 11 Awards Assembly, where the Work Experience Placement of the Year Award will be presented.
If you have any questions, please contact Mrs Horne at workexperience@wellandparkacademy.com.
We wish all students the best of luck in finding a placement and look forward to hearing about their experiences.
