Admissions Arrangements – From 1st September 2025

Joining the school at the beginning of Year 7

If you are currently in Year 6 and would like to join our school, please make your application before 31st October. Applications must be made through the Local Authority in which you live via the following links:

Leicestershire County Council

Leicester City Council

School admissions | North Northamptonshire Council

Late applications received after the closing date will receive the lowest priority, and will be considered after those that have been received on time, unless there is a significant reason for lateness.

We traditionally hold open events for prospective Year 7 students and their parents in September. More information is sent via primary schools in advance of this.

Joining the school in all other years or during Year 7

Welland Park Academy manages its own “in year” admissions. “In year” admissions for The Welland Park Academy is any admission that would take place after the normal admission round for Year 7 Students.

If you would like a copy of an “In year” application form for WPA, they are available from the school's main office, or electronically via email on:

admissions@wellandparkacademy.com

Should you wish to speak with us about the application / appeals process, or the current availability of places in a particular year group, please contact:

Mrs C Dovey

Email admissions@wellandparkacademy.com

Telephone (Main Reception) 01858 464 795

The school will aim to notify parents of the outcome of their application within 10 school days, but will notify in writing within 15 school days.

In the event the application is unsuccessful, there is the right to appeal. An appeal form will be provided, where you set out your grounds for appeal, and the appeal will be heard within 30 school days of receipt of the appeal.

Admissions Appeals Timetable

All admissions for Welland Park Academy are considered in line with the DfE School Admissions code which can be found at:

DfE School Admissions Code

Please note that we are currently full in all year groups.

Requests for admission outside the normal age group

Welland Park Academy believes children should be educated within their chronological year group.

If parents/carers believe their child should be educated in a different year group they can ask for this to be considered. Supporting evidence must be provided from relevant professionals working with the child and the family stating why it is in the best interest of the child to be placed outside of their normal year group.

Agreement from the school to teach a child outside of the normal year group must be requested prior to any application process for that child.

There is no guarantee that an application will be accepted on this basis and decisions on requests for admission outside the normal age group will be made on an individual basis and in the best interests of the child concerned. In accordance with the School Admissions Code, this will include taking account of:

- Parents’ views

- Information about the child’s academic, social and emotional development

- Where relevant, their medical history and the views of a medical professional

- Whether they have previously been educated out of their normal age group

- Whether they may naturally have fallen into a lower age group if it were not for being born prematurely

- The headteacher’s views

If the application is not accepted this does not constitute a refusal of a place and there is no right to an independent statutory appeal. Where the application is successful, applications will be processed as part of the main admissions round and they will be considered on the basis of the admission arrangements laid out in the school's admissions policy.

Parents will always be informed of the reasons for any decision on the year group a child should be admitted to. Parents do not have a right to appeal if they are offered a place at the school but it is not in their preferred age group.
