Admissions
Welland Park Academy has a well-established transition process for students joining our community from primary schools and in-year transfers. We recognise the importance of a successful transition in Year 7 as a pre-requisite for a sound start to Key stage 3. We understand that this can be a stressful time for some students and parents alike.
We appreciate that the choice of secondary school is a big decision. The following provision is available to help you decide if Welland Park is the most suitable choice for you and your child:
Open Evening in September - An opportunity to meet all of our staff and see our school with students available for tours and questions.
Tours of the school at any time during the day with our students or Inclusion staff escorting parents, answering questions where appropriate. Please contact the school office to book in advance.
A new prospectus is produced annually which is available on our website.
Summer School in August - A week-long opportunity for Year 6 students to attend school at Welland Park and get to know our campus and some of our staff.
Well established, specialist staff to oversee the students in their transition:
Mr Paul, SENDco -
pauls@wellandparkacademy.com
Mrs Hardy, Student Support Manager for Key Stage 3 - hardyk@wellanparkacademy.com
Mrs Dovey, Admissions Officer - doveyc@wellandparkacademy.com
Mrs Askham, Progress Leader for Key Stage 3 - askhame@wellandparkacademy.com
During the Autumn term of Year 6 you will receive the official transfer documents from the Local Authority, (LA,) inviting you to select your preferred secondary school. This needs to be submitted by the end of October.
Secondary places are confirmed by the LA in writing on March 1st.
Our well-established team work closely with our feeder primary schools and visit during the summer term so that the students become familiar with our staff and vice versa. Our new intake will spend 2 days with us for induction. On the evening of the second day, we invite all prospective students and parents into school. Parents have an opportunity to meet the Year 7 tutors, see the tutor base and ask any questions with regard to uniform, lunch provision and curriculum.
In the new academic year the first day is dedicated to our Year 7 students only – with the support of some older students who act as ‘buddies’. Later that same term parents are invited to meet the tutors to discuss initial progress.
All applications for a place at Welland Park Academy must be made via Allocations at Leicestershire County Council. To access the online application form, please click here.
We look forward to seeing you and your child in the near future.
